WEST HOUSTON ASSISTANCE MINISTRIES provides services through the Ministries described below. All srvices are provided our single site on Rodgerdale at Meadowglen, except the Job Serach - Domestic which is held at St. Cyril Catholic Chruch on Mondays. Each Ministry is designed to work in concert to provide those services that best align with the overall goals of the organization. Where services are not directly available, we attempt to initiate aid through referral to other organizations that do provide them.
| CARE Ministry |
The CARE Ministry provides direct support to those in need. Volunteer "interviewers" work with the needy "clients" to determine immediate and long-term needs. Aid often is in the form of rent and utility payments and may also include food and items (such as clothing) donated to the Second Blessing Store. |
| Job Search |
The Job Search Ministry provides assistance in resume writing, finding positions through bulletin boards and direct assistance in job search. Computers with Internet access are available to post resumes and search for job openings. |
| Food Pantry |
The Food Pantry provides food and toiletries to needy clients of the Care Ministry. The Food Pantry also supports special programs, such as Holiday dinners. The food and toiletries come from local food stores, food drives by organizations in the community and from individuals. |
| Second Blessing Store |
Second Blessing is a re-sale store which depends chiefly on donations of saleable items (tax deductible) as provided by individuals, businesses and organizations. Store revenues are used to support our CARE Ministry. |
| Educational Programs |
ESL (English as a Second Language) classes introduce residents to a basic understanding of American culture and language. More than learning the English language, students are provided a background in banking, credit and business as it pertains to the local culture. |

The Christmas program provides gifts and toys to children in need, while the Thanksgiving program provides special food. OUr Back-To-School program distributes gently used uniforms and new shcool supplies to young students in need. |
In addition to the services described above, WHAM offers these benefits to the community:

It provides retirees and people with skills the opportunity to apply their abilities as volunteers and gain a spirit of community effort and accomplishment.
-
It provides minor offenders a method to fulfill their hours obligation to the court system, while at the same time providing manpower to the Ministry and exposing these individuals to the healthy spirit of the organization.
-
By relieving the stress of those in need, WHAM empowers the willing back into the work force, while elevating the community by reducing crimes associated with thos in dire need.
