MAY - JUNE - JULY 2008
Second Blessing Store is pleased to offer One-Dollar clothing prices on in-stock selections, except for Boutique and Blue Tag items, on Tuesday, May 27th only. "We want to help our clients who are on limited budgets, and we hope the public will find bargains, too," says Willie Duckworth, Second Blessing Store Manager. Second Blessing Store, located at 3100 Rodgerdale, just south of Westheimer and the Beltway, will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. with shopping fun.
Holiday In May is the annual Food Drive for WHAM, conducted by the Westchase District. This year 36 locations will participate. Thank you for supporting the WHAM Food Pantry!
Please call WHAM Food Pantry Supervisor Louise Hauser at tel. (713) 977-5522, to pick up LARGE donations of non-perishable food. Remember that City of Houston and Harris County Health Department regulations restrict donated food to properly dated, unopened containers only. Baby food and formula cannot be dated with the same-month expiration, a.k.a. 'short dated.' Therefore, baby food with any May 2008 expiration date can not be accepted.
You can join WHAM this summer in helping someone in need. The Back-To-School Supplies Drive and the Adopt-A-Family Summer programs reach out to those living at or below the poverty line, right here in our own community. WHAM encourages individuals, families, civic groups, and businesses to support the Back-To-School Supplies Drive with supplies and fund donations. WHAM will register over 900 school children who need basic supplies. WHAM continues to aid young students from needy families in both the Houston and Alief I.S.D. schools as it has done for more than 20 years.
Summer opens the door to volunteering at WHAM. The Client Services area is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Client Services include the WHAM Food Pantry, which needs grocery stockers and order fillers on Thursdays and Fridays; CARE Ministry, which needs bilingual individuals who can interview clients on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays; and the Job Search Center, which needs volunteers on Mondays and Tuesdays to help clients search for work. Our Second Blessing Store is in need of Saturday volunteers for Cashier and Sorters/Pricers, and it needs Restock helpers on Thursdays and Fridays to set up displays in household goods, toys, and electronics.
To volunteer at WHAM, please call Larry Leonard at tel. (832) 553-1671 and schedule an appointment for Volunteer Orientation. Volunteers will be given an opportunity to choose their days and times. No previous experience is necessary.
If you have large donations such as furniture, oversized den or bedroom sets, dining room sets, or appliances, please call for a FREE pick up at tel. (713) 977-5460. This new 24-hour hotline lets donors schedule a pick up appointment at a convenient time. The biggest demand is for furniture and large appliances. Because of our high quality Donation Standards, only donations of new or gently-used and working items can be accepted. Pick up hours are scheduled Monday through Saturday only.
