Food Pantry Driver​​

Position Type: Part-Time
Salary: $11.00/hour
Reports to: Food Pantry Manager

The food pantry driver is responsible for food donation pickups from various businesses. They will show a kind, caring demeanor on their route. They will follow all food safety guidelines while picking up the donations provided to WHAM.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for food donation pick-ups.
  • Must be able to safely maneuver company vehicles
  • Ability to shuffle donation schedule to a best fit daily model
  • Exceptional customer service skills aimed at communicating a positive image of our Ministry to donors
  • Follow all in-house safety instructions, as well as federal and state food safety guidelines
  • Provide excellent customer service interaction between clients, donors, community, volunteers and in-house staff
  • Accurately record donations, by poundage, in our database as required for WHAM’s record keeping
  • Flexibility in hours worked as the donations we pick-up may require different time frames
  • Monitor food pantry van and food equipment and alert manager of maintenance required
  • Coordinate food pick-ups from with various entities (Houston Food Bank, retail donors, food drives, etc.)
  • Weigh and document incoming food following the outlined guidelines, processes and procedures
  • Responsible for the safeguarding of confidential information and regulatory matters
  • Participate in company trainings and licensing as required by WHAM and any state and federal authorities

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional environment working with a diversity of people. This department is fast paced and this position works with a smile on their face and friendly demeanor. This role routinely lifts and carries items to place on shelves for shopping convenience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Back braces are a required safety feature. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time non-exempt position. This is a 29 hour a week job. Some responsibilities may require some weeks to include more than the scheduled 29 hours. Flexibility in hours is a must. Scheduled hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday, 8:00am – 2:00pm.

Preferred Education and Experience
Non-profit experience, a plus
Food handling experience and/or a TABC license, a plus
Experience safely driving a 16ft box truck

Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must pass a background check
Must have a valid driver’s license at all times
Must be able to pass a drug test and random screenings
